As the 2024 Esports World Cup in Riyadh approached, we were challenged to create an electrifying highlight to celebrate Aramco's partnership with the Aston Martin Formula 1 racing team. We seized the opportunity and, in just 5 weeks, brought the project to life using Unreal Engine 5. We dove into the fast-paced world of Formula 1 racing, mastering car engines, vehicle physics with Unreal's Chaos, and racing course design. We fine-tuned the integration and calibration of various force feedback controllers. Our team crafted an immersive, futuristic world, complete with pulse-pounding soundtracks and dynamic speaker voices. The result? A thrilling experience that hooks both novices and seasoned gamers. Our application seamlessly runs on traditional desktops and VR headsets. Plus, a server-based overseer application transforms the setup into a high-octane multiplayer showdown, featuring an LED display that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

We had the great opportunity to be involved in a project that uses augmented reality for something really useful: contextual information to help you experience historical sites. We helped SPUR.labs and raumHOCH bring the concept to life in the form of an iOS app prototype that shows augmented, vanished buildings and original media in a guided audio tour that can be experienced on the grounds of the memorial site of the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp. It was a challenge to get the tracking right on an almost empty site, but the result was definitely worth it.

The configurator should work accross common form factors from desktops to cell phones and have a backend in the form of an admin tool so that the individual markets can configure it appropriately. In collaboration with Digitale Bilderfabrik (Vehicle visualization, project management) and GNS (cloud and API interface), we designed and also implemented these Apps in React. Available in multiple markets e.g. DK, FR, UK, NL, AUS, DE.

During one of our research weeks, our team explored the capabilities of iOS's mixed reality multiplayer system and ML-powered skeletal tracking. In just five days, we developed a game for up to six players. Two competing teams race to collect cards scattered in real space, but there's a twist: players must look through portals to determine if a card matches their team, deals damage, or is a trap. To collect a card, players must touch it with their phone—but watch out, you're not the only one hunting for it!

Due to Covid-19, we had to rethink our original plan to set up an analog trade fair stand with a virtual link for a tangible, intelligent factory of the future at the Hannover Messe 2020. No problem - thanks to great teamwork with raumHOCH, MCI and the people responsible at Rexroth. Instead of the native touch application for the Microsoft Surface Studio, we developed a WebGL application that works without a real exhibit and is integrated on the customer's website.

Every year at the Hannover Messe, SAP impressively demonstrates how the future of networked industries can be practiced today. In 2020, we contributed an innovative overall experience based on interactive storytelling using gesture control. On a 98'' screen, visitors were able to discover the entire SAP Digital Supply Chain service portfolio at their own pace and according to their own interests. They were retrievable by capturing the exact hand position and the skeleton of the user by an Intel RealSense camera and incorporating it into the stories in real time. Interfering movements of bystanders were faded out. A coherent invitation to immersive interaction.

Together with Voss+Fischer and raumHOCH it was our mission to create 12 small presentations showing the innovative industrial solutions of ABB 1:1 in AR on the booth. Each demonstrator acts as a "walk-in diagram" of things, some thousands of miles apart. The context forms the basis for the general communication of the people at the booth and helps them to get to the point and at the same time show large exhibits such as transformers, buses or robots virtually. The AR app complements the seven Virtual Windows we developed for the same event: Large LCD touch screens allow visitors to see a three-dimensional overview of the topics covered in this area of the stand.

When implementing creative projects, we at FRAMEFIELD not only work on state-of-the-art tracking and the latest rendering technology, but also on ensuring that our clients can iterate their content quickly, intuitively and flexibly. To achieve this, we rely on a clear separation between technical implementation in the form of an app and content that can be entered, edited, translated and updated online by the client in parallel. We have already used numerous technologies for this purpose. First, we connected established CMS systems such as AirTable or Google Sheets via API. Based on this experience, we developed detangle with Firebase and ReactJs: our own CMS optimized for the delivery and localization of content. The content entered there by the customer can be directly updated and tested live without recompiling the application. This allows everyone to concentrate on what they do best: FRAMEFIELD implements flexible and innovative solutions with which our clients can iterate quickly and work long-term.

This project is one of our classic UX consulting projects: The customer already has an existing product and is uses our expertise to streamline the user experience. FLLT.ai is a tool from Fraunhofer Fokus with which automotive lidar-based training data can be “labeled” in order to train artificial intelligence (AI) accordingly. The detailed and precise labeling of data recorded with the help of cameras and sensors is a basic prerequisite for this. In the tool, you can navigate through the 3D environment scenarios and quickly assign a label to the objects, which are displayed as point clouds.

HoloStream was a quick research project to explore the cross media collaboration between Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality. In this use case a on-site maintenance worker wears an AR headset. He is guided by an expert assistant who is not on site wearing a VR headset. The HoloLens constantly scans its environment and streams geometry and texture data to the VR system, so that the assistant can teleport himself into the on-site environment. Both participants can see each other as avatars and can communicate via voice and gestures.

Our first thought was: This is what VR was invented for! For the Swiss paint & coatings manufacturer Clariant, one of the world's leading specialty chemical companies, we built a room-scale VR experience. Large-scale industrial spaces also have large-scale maintenance tasks, which often get outsourced. Usually this means that the person doing the repairs needs to be accompanied by the person that knows the site. Give the repairperson a AR Microsoft hololens and the plant employee a VR HTC Vive. This way, the person with AR can get realtime assistance from the employee with VR.

VR-Annotate is a research tool of the project Archaeological Spaces run by the Cluster of Excellence at the Humboldt-University Berlin. It’s an innovative VR simulation environment where domain experts, such as archeologists, can dive into simulations of ancient locations while adding and sharing annotations with other experts. The simulated VR-environments are mapped with precision to real GPS locations and can thus be viewed and extended through upcoming AR projects, for example those with the Microsoft HoloLens. The annotations are stored as JSON-Schema format and can thus beembedded into other research projects. VR-Annotate was built in Unity, and it s source code and extensive documentation has been shared as open source on github.

The “Monument of Friendship” (MdF) was an obelisk constructed from more than 5,000 Jägermeister bottles in front of 216 LED panels with a surface area of 120 m². We developed a total of three customized interactive modules for this installation so that visitors to Kieler Woche could interact with the obelisk in a variety of ways. Using web sockets, smartphones and kickpads, users were able to control and play with the contents of the installation.

Cornelsen - the largest school textbook publisher in Germany - asked us to support them in the development of their new digital products. Firstly, a portal for teachers and students (now Lernen.Cornelsen) around the digital textbook. It covers everything from lesson planning and implementation to suitable material for the book. We also had a lot of fun working on “Interaktive Übungen” (interactive exercises): a platform on which pupils can practise independently in the afternoon. We advised on this project for a while and developed design proposals for it.

For the center-stage presentation of Skoda's new car model at the Geneva Car Salon, we designed a fun, interactive game using the Microsoft Kinect sensor to engage visitors in a playful battle to uncover the exciting details of the new series. Leveraging our custom 3D graphics suite, tooll.io, we rendered the vehicle in real-time and implemented all game logic, driver design, and sound.
